The city of Watkinsville was founded in 1791 when it first appeared in Clarke County records. It was originally the seat until 1872 - when the county’s seat was moved to Athens. Three years later, in 1875, it was created, with Watkinsville being the largest town and county seat. According to Wikipedia, the city’s population is 2,832 (per the census taken in 2010) and is included in the Athens-Clarke County Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
